The insurance companies we work with

We are an independent agency, which means we do not work for any one of them. We place business with about forty, and we put them up against each other on your behalf.

Why the list matters

If you called an insurance company directly, you would get one quote from one company, presented by someone who only has that one to sell. There is nothing wrong with that company — it may well be the right one for you — but you would have no way of knowing, because nobody in that conversation is able to tell you what the alternative costs.

We sit on the other side of that. One conversation, one set of information, and we take it to the companies below. If the one you already have is winning, we will tell you that too.

Shopping a particular company?

People often come to us with a specific name in mind — a commercial they saw, a rate a friend mentioned, a brand they have used for years. We can quote it. What we would rather do is quote it and the four or five companies that compete with it for your profile, so you can see where it actually lands. It is the same amount of work for you either way.

Companies we place and service business with

Appetite and availability vary by state, by line of coverage and by the property or driver in question, so not every company below will quote every risk.

Company names and marks are the property of their respective owners. Listing a company indicates that Prime Time Insurance Agency places or services business with it; it is not an endorsement by that company.

Common questions

About how an independent agency works.

Can you quote Progressive?

Yes. Progressive is one of the companies we work with, and we can quote it alongside the others rather than on its own. That is usually the more useful comparison: the same driver and the same car can be cheapest at Progressive in one town and cheapest somewhere else a few miles away, and you only find out by running both.

I already have a policy with one of these companies. Can you take it over?

Often yes. If we are appointed with your current carrier, the policy can usually be moved to our agency without rewriting it, without a new policy number and without a gap — you keep the coverage and the renewal date you have, and you get a local office to call. Send us a copy of the declarations page and we will tell you whether it can be done.

Does buying through an agency cost more than going direct?

Generally no. Rates are filed with the state by the insurance company, and the agency's commission is already built into the rate the company files — so the same policy at the same company is normally the same price whether you buy it through us or through a call center. What differs is who looks at it afterwards.

Why do you work with so many companies instead of one?

Because no single company is the right answer for every house, car and driver. Carriers price risk differently, and they change their appetite over time — a company that was competitive on shore homes two years ago may not be today. Having a wide shelf is what lets us move you when your current carrier stops being the right fit, instead of defending the one we are stuck with.

Do you write outside New Jersey?

Yes. We are licensed in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland. Not every company on this list is available in every one of those states, so the shortlist for a New York home will not be identical to the one for a New Jersey home.

One conversation, the whole shelf.

No cost to have us look, and no obligation if we cannot beat what you have.
