Weather you can actually use
We're proud to partner with Nick at Norcast. When a storm is coming up the coast, he's who we watch.
Meet NorEaster Nick
"You'll come to find I'm not your 'typical' weather guy. I like to have fun with my work. I like to make people laugh while informing them. I'll always have your safety as my top priority but I believe it can be done in a way that's engaging and interesting. I will never hype any situation and will instead go with the 'just the facts, ma'am' mantra."
Why an insurance agency cares about the forecast
Most of the claims we handle across New Jersey arrive on the back of weather. Wind, hail, ice dams, downed trees, coastal flooding. The difference between a bad week and a genuinely expensive one is usually what you did in the 48 hours before the storm, not after.
Honest forecasting helps with that. Hype doesn't. A forecaster who cries wolf every time a low forms off Cape Hatteras trains people to ignore the one that matters.
Before the next storm
- Know your deductible — and check whether your policy has a separate, percentage-based wind or hurricane deductible. On a $500,000 home a 2% wind deductible is $10,000, which surprises people at the worst possible moment.
- Check whether you have flood coverage. Standard homeowners policies do not cover flood, and in this part of New Jersey that matters.
- Photograph your home and contents now, while everything is intact. It takes fifteen minutes and makes a contents claim dramatically easier.
- Clear the gutters and trim branches over the roof and driveway. Carriers can deny claims for damage traced to deferred maintenance.
